Be Sustainable, the collaborative platform for sustainable Brussels districts
Be Sustainable, the Brussels regional platform – supported in particular by the SAU-MSI – for those working towards a sustainable city, was officially launched on Tuesday 8 October.
The collaborative platform offers networking, tools, sources of inspiration, knowledge-sharing and guidance. The aspiration behind it is to encourage the development of districts which are ambitious about sustainability, in line with the objectives of the Regional Sustainable Development Plan (PRDD-GPDO) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Among the sources of inspiration on the Be Sustainable website is Usquare.brussels, the project for the conversion of the former Fritz Toussaint barracks in Ixelles, which is being steered by the SAU-MSI.
An institutional process of collaboration, knowledge-building and test phases took place prior to the platform’s creation.
The idea is to link together the different public- and private-sector bodies involved in regional planning and urban regeneration so that they collaborate in the context of sustainable district projects. This network will therefore consist of regional and municipal authorities, developers, project designers, consultants and others. The Be Sustainable platform aims to stimulate mutual inspiration and knowledge-sharing, connect professionals together around innovative practices and suggest concrete solutions.
Be Sustainable is an initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region, and in particular the Ministers of Regional Planning, the Environment and Urban Planning. The platform is supported by five regional institutions active in the field of regional planning and urban regeneration: the SAU-MSI, Environment Brussels, perspective.brussels, urban.brussels and bma.brussels. The operation and development of the platform are being managed by the Sustainable Districts Facilitator’s team, under the supervision of Brussels Environment.
