Inauguration of the FRAME Building – Showcase of MediaPark

The Urban Development Corporation (SAU) has inaugurated FRAME – Brussels Media Community, the first new landmark building completed as part of the future MediaPark. Designed by Baukunst (Brussels) and Bruther (Paris), and built by BAM Interbuild – Groven+, the project benefits from the support of the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the 2014-2020 programme of the Brussels-Capital Region.

When the idea emerges to construct a building specifically dedicated to the communication, media and audiovisual industries, the ambition is clear: to imagine a facility that anticipates the ecosystem of the future MediaPark district. From the very first discussions, the regional broadcaster BX1 shows strong interest and actively contributes to the project.

On this basis, the SAU – owner of a plot on the corner of Boulevard Reyers and Rue Colonel Bourg – launches a call for architects. Among the 51 proposals received, the joint offer by Baukunst (Brussels) and Bruther (Paris) stands out for its boldness and alignment with the regional vision: an 8,500 m² building, fully glazed, modular, and sustainable, designed to support and energise Brussels’ media and communication sector.

Construction of FRAME begins in parallel with that of the new headquarters of VRT and RTBF, shaping the first contours of MediaPark and laying the foundation of a collaborative and creative ecosystem.

A technical and architectural feat
Based on a strong rationality of spaces, FRAME pushes the limits of traditional architecture with a design free of internal load-bearing walls. Supported by a steel exoskeleton and concrete columns, the building offers fully open floors of 1,000 m² each, flooded with natural light. Circulation and utilities are positioned around the perimeter, improving distribution efficiency and freeing interior spaces from technical constraints.

This design ensures maximum flexibility, allowing the building to evolve over time according to the needs of the companies and creators who will occupy it. The result: a model of adaptability, constructive efficiency and architectural intelligence, perfectly aligned with the environmental and economic ambitions of the Region.

From structural completion to full operation
In 2024, the completion of the main structure and the load tests mark an important milestone: temporary supports are removed, revealing the strength of the architectural vision. In 2025, the contract to operate the business centre is awarded to Molengeek, with the objective of creating a true “Media” ecosystem on the ground and first floors.

Several floors are now available for lease to companies in the media and communication sector, while BX1 has already taken up residence on two levels, confirming its anchoring in this innovative environment.

Rudi Vervoort, Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region: “With FRAME, we are taking a major step forward in the realisation of the future MediaPark. This landmark building reflects the Region’s ambition: to create a leading media hub. By bringing together talents, businesses and public stakeholders, FRAME strengthens Brussels’ appeal and supports a sector that is essential to our democratic and cultural vitality.”

Thomas de Béthune, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Belgium: “European Union support has enabled the creation of this strategic media hub, which will foster entrepreneurship, innovation, culture and employment. FRAME is a flagship project: a building that demonstrates how architecture can contribute to the development of a sustainable district, offering an open home to the media sector – essential to freedom of expression and democracy.”

Gilles Delforge, Director of the Urban Development Corporation (SAU): “The inauguration of FRAME is the result of teamwork. It is a major milestone in the realisation of MediaPark, for which the SAU is responsible for coordination, and it embodies our ambition to make this site an open, creative and sustainable district dedicated to media and innovation, delivering tangible economic benefits to Brussels and its residents.”

Adrien Verschuere, Director of Baukunst: “FRAME is conceived as an open infrastructure, designed to evolve over time and uses. Its unique structure reflects a desire for constructive clarity and freedom of appropriation. It is a building that is both readable and adaptable – a framework for a community in motion.”

Wim Straetmans, Managing Director of BAM Interbuild: “We are delighted that the FRAME building is now operational. My sincere thanks go to all the teams who worked tirelessly, applying their knowledge and expertise to complete this technically complex project and deliver this remarkable result.”
