Public consultation concerning the transitional phase of Usquare.brussels
From 15 February to 1 March 2019, the planning application for the transitional phase of the site of the former Fritz Toussaint barracks in Ixelles is the subject of a public consultation by the Urban Planning Corporation (SAU-MSI).
Ultimately the site, which is currently enclosed by a perimeter wall, will be open on all four sides and comprehensively converted into attractive public spaces, housing, local facilities, venues for university activities, student accommodation and so on, in a long-term project called Usquare.brussels, the Territorial Development Plan (PAD-RPA) for which is also the subject of a public consultation. The Region wanted to take advantage of the preparatory phase of this conversion, during which extensive work will not be taking place on the site, to run a transitional programme. The SAU-MSI, which has been tasked with the operational management of Usquare.brussels by the Region, has therefore appointed by competitive tender a ‘dynamic manager’ for the site and issued a call for expressions of interest (CEI), as a result of which it has selected some forty temporary occupants, with a superb range of sectors, sizes and approaches.
The future activities of these forty or so temporary occupants, under the collective name of See U, are the subject of a general planning application.
From 15 February to 1 March 2019, local residents and others who are affected can learn about the details of the application and express observations:
- directly to the designated municipal officers: Municipality of Ixelles - Service de l'Urbanisme (Urban Planning Service), Chaussée d'Ixelles, 168, 1050 Brussels, on Monday to Friday from 9 am to midday and on Thursday from 2 pm until 8 pm; an appointment must be arranged the day before at the latest (tel. 02/515.67.78).
