New training center for Safe.brussels
The Government of the Brussels-Capital Region has decided to bring together, on a single site, all professions related to security, prevention and emergency services (operations, training and exercises), in the immediate vicinity of the future Brussels Fire Brigade Headquarters. The SAU has been entrusted with its implementation, and the architectural team has just been appointed.
The origin of this project lies in the decision to relocate the current training activities of Safe.brussels and integrate them into those of the new Headquarters fire station. Located nearby, this pooling of infrastructure enables numerous operational synergies, efficiency gains, and substantial economies of scale.
The future training center will be housed in an existing building located on Avenue du Port and will require extensive transformation to accommodate a reception area, training facilities (including simulation spaces, virtual reality environments and laboratories), offices and logistical spaces. The total program area amounts to 3,600 m², with an overall estimated budget of €5,000,000.
The immediate proximity of the future Brussels Fire Brigade Headquarters will enable numerous operational synergies, efficiency gains and significant economies of scale.
Following the publication of the design services tender, in April 2025 the SAU appointed the architectural team Elmes-Boidot, whose proposal stood out for its efficient conversion of the existing building into a training center.
The project schedule foresees the start of construction in mid-2028, with completion expected by mid-2029.
Timeline:
• November 2022: acquisition of the building by the SAU
• April 2024: launch of the design services tender
• April 2025: appointment of the Elmes-Boidot design team
• December 2025: approval of the preliminary design
• March 2026: submission of the planning permission applicationande de permis d’urbanisme
