Sports facility at Quai des Armateurs
The Urban Development Corporation (SAU) has been given a delegated project management role for the construction of a regional sports facility by the Vergote Dock near the Canal’s turning area.
The new facility, with a gross floor space of around 5,400 m², will be built on a vacant plot of some 2,600 m² belonging to the Port of Brussels.
The future building will include a multipurpose sports hall, a gymnastics hall, a climbing hall, a number of padel courts and a cafeteria.
The role of the Urban Development Corporation
Under Urban Renovation Contract 1 ‘Citroën-Vergote’, the SAU is acting as delegated project manager on behalf of the Region. It is thus playing its role as coordinator of Brussels' development, in charge of the implementation of major urban development projects and public facilities of regional significance. For this project, it is working with the City of Brussels, which will manage the facility once it is built, and with Urban.brussels, which is in charge of the Urban Renovation Contracts. In the initial phases of the project, it is also working with the Region’s Chief Architect and the sports unit of perspective.brussels.
