Sports facility at Quai des Armateurs

The Urban Development Corporation (SAU) has been given a delegated project management role for the construction of a regional sports facility by the Vergote Dock near the Canal’s turning area.

The future building, with an approximate total floor space of 5,400 m², will include a multipurpose sports hall, a gymnastics hall, a climbing hall, a number of padel courts and a cafeteria.

Under Urban Renovation Contract 1 ‘Citroën-Vergote’, the SAU is acting as delegated project manager on behalf of the Region. Its involvement reflects its role as coordinator of Brussels' development, in charge of the implementation of major urban development projects and, as is the case here, public facilities of regional significance. For this project, it is working in particular with the City of Brussels, which will manage the facility once it is built.

  • In January 2021, the SAU published a European public procurement notice with a view to appointing a multidisciplinary team to design and oversee the construction of this sports facility of regional significance.
  • In September 2021, on the proposal of the SAU, five teams were shortlisted from among the 58 applications received for the design of the new sports facility at Vergote Dock.
