Work starts on construction of building that will house LE CHAT cartoon museum15 September 2021
The Urban Development Corporation (SAU) has started work on the construction of the building that will house LE CHAT cartoon museum on Rue Royale, for which it obtained planning permission last spring.
The SAU has appointed Gillion Construct through a public procurement procedure to construct the building, to plans designed by the architect Pierre Hebbelinck. The first stage of the project, on which the SAU has briefed residents from the immediate vicinity, will be the demolition of an unsanitary building behind the site of Brussels Info Place (BIP).
The demolition, which is expected to take no more than three months, will be followed by archaeological excavations conducted by patrimoine.brussels. The excavations should take six months. The SAU will then be able to start work on the actual construction of the contemporary, modular building that will house Philippe Geluck’s brainchild, LE CHAT cartoon museum, which is scheduled for opening in 2024.
